When you wear a pair of white shoes, especially a minimalist casual canvas type, you definitely stand out by making a bold statement. White represents innocence, cleanliness, class, and perfection. However, sporting lighter colors like this one can be a pain because it can get dirty quick. Fret no more. Below is an easy DIY tutorial on how you can clean your TOMS or canvas shoes at home saving you lots of money:
THE STEPS
1. Plug your sink and fill the basin up with cold water -enough to dip your shoes in there to soak. Then I like to add 1/4th of a cup of laundry detergent while the water is going. Once the solution is evenly blended, go ahead and put your canvas shoes in there.
You’ll need a sturdy brush to help you do the dirty work. I like to scrub the bottom soles of the shoes first to make sure that all the dirt is off under there. Don’t forget the sides too.
2. Then when you’re ready, go ahead and scrub the fabric. I like to scrub along the same direction as to where the threads are going first, then scrub the opposite direction to ensure all the dirt or stains loosen up and are removed. If you have TOMS, you can easily take out the leather insoles. I’ve worn these a lot so when scrubbing the leather, I scrub in a circular motion.
3. After you’ve scrubbed enough, give all your shoe parts a good rinsing and soak them in water again. If you have white shoes like mine, I like to add 1/4th of a cup of bleach and roll them around in water and leave them there for 10 minutes.
4. Once time is up, rinse everything off again and then place them in the sunlight for a dry natural process. It usually takes a couple hours. I prefer putting my shoes outdoors because it may shrink in the dryer; so to be safe, air dry. And that’s it! I’m so happy with how clean my TOMS are. They almost look brand new!
