How to Patch Your Ripped Jeans With Fabric in 8 Simple Steps

Ever have a favorite pair of old ripped jeans that you refuse to throw away? I’m that type of girl who will wear something until it can’t serve its purpose anymore. And yup, I sew up the holes in my socks and still sport them until they no longer stretch and the threads thin out. I am frugal AF.

Today I’m going to teach you how to patch your jeans up by hand in minutes with these 8 simple steps. But before we start, I recommend you get these first:

MATERIALS

PROCEDURE

  1. Flip your holey jeans inside out.
  2. Then take a strand of lace (or fabric) and place it at each end of the leg where the hole is.
  3. Cut off the extra fabric.
  4. You’ll be sewing each side horizontally and vertically. (If you need a guide, sew knots first around the lace just to get an idea of where you’d be sewing. This will help line up your fabric and give you a preview in case you want to try it on.)
  5. If your fabric is too short vertically, overlap and sew another layer on there with the same colored thread as your jeans.
  6. If you have a small hole, another method is to measure just enough lace around the open area and sew it where the thread is more visible on the inside of your jeans instead of the outside.
  7. Once you’re done, flip your jeans back out.
  8. If you have extra fringe from your jeans like mine, feel free to cut it off if you don’t like that style. This will enable more lace to show.

Men, you can do this too. I’ve seen several guys rock this look. It’s cool and sexy, but not too revealing. Whether you’re trying to go for that punk rock vibe or attempting to bring back the 1970s with a little more edge, I dig it. You do you.
